The Caribbean Graduate School of Theology (CGST) was established in Kingston, Jamaica in 1986 under the sponsorship of the Caribbean Evangelical Theological Association, a consortium of some 50 undergraduate theological institutions scattered throughout the Caribbean region and belonging to various church groups. CGST is accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) and the Accrediting Commission of the Caribbean Evangelical Theological Association (CETA).
HCD PROGRAM OFFERED
Diploma in Holistic Child Development - This program is designed to be responsive to the society’s need for workers equipped with knowledge and competencies related to Holistic Child Development with the added benefit of a biblically-integrated curriculum. This is an eighteen (18) months program comprising 42 semester credits including 13 core courses and a practicum with an academic credit value of 3 semester credit hours. Students are trained to understand the child in terms of where he or she is in the ongoing process of growth and development and explore aspects of development with respect to spiritual, social, cognitive, emotional and behavioral spheres that impact such process. The practitioners’ approach will be from a holistic perspective concerned about every aspect of the child’s development.
Postgraduate Diploma in Holistic Child Development - This new program provides advanced training for child care professionals in the government and non-governmental sectors. The program explores contemporary concepts and theories of child development from the prenatal stage to adolescence and examines holistic child development issues specific to the Caribbean, including factors that render large sections of the child population at risk, such as human trafficking, child labour, suicide, natural disasters, substance and sexual abuse, school disengagement, and lack of educational opportunities. Through a broad-based faculty of child development specialists students will be sensitized to theses issue and to the legal frameworks for childcare and child protection in the Caribbean, while paying attention to the international frameworks set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the UN Millennium Development Goals, and the World Fit for Children.The program comprises eight (8) modules to be delivered over a fourteen (14) month period.
